FX Artist

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior FX Artist to lead the technical and creative execution of complex simulation work for films, OTT and commercials.

You will own challenging FX shots and sequences, build scalable procedural solutions, support junior artists, and collaborate closely with supervisors and downstream departments.

What You'll Do

• Design, develop and deliver complex Pyro, FLIP, RBD, POP, destruction, environmental and particle effects.
• Own technically demanding shots and sequences from brief through final approved delivery.
• Develop reusable Houdini setups, procedural systems and efficient simulation workflows.
• Diagnose difficult stability, performance, scale and integration problems.
• Plan simulation approaches, estimate complexity and flag production risks early.
• Review FX work, mentor junior and mid-level artists, and share technical best practices.
• Coordinate with FX Supervisors, Lighting, Animation, Layout and Compositing teams.
• Ensure reliable caching, publishing, version control and pipeline compliance.

Required Skills

• Expert production proficiency in Houdini, including Pyro, FLIP, RBD, POPs, VDBs and constraints.
• Deep understanding of simulation physics, proceduralism, performance optimization and debugging.
• Strong VEX skills and practical Python knowledge for automation and tool development.
• Proven ability to create scalable, art-directable FX solutions for complex shots.
• Experience delivering FX assets and caches into multi-department production pipelines.

Software Requirements

Candidates should have practical experience with the following software and production workflows.

Nice to Have

• Solaris/USD, Karma and Arnold integration.
• Houdini Digital Assets, PDG/TOPs and procedural pipeline development.
• Large-scale environment FX, crowd-related FX or complex destruction sequences.
• Shot or sequence leadership and technical reviews.

Education & Experience

• 5–8+ years of relevant FX production experience, including complex shot ownership.
• Degree or diploma in Animation, VFX or a related field preferred. Equivalent production experience is accepted.
